If you’re looking for the perfect appetizer or easy weeknight meal, these Baked Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups were made for you!
I mean, how could you go wrong with pizza crust, ham, and cheese?
How to make Baked Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups
As I mentioned above, these baked ham and cheese roll-ups are made with just a few basic ingredients:
- Refrigerated pizza dough
- Deli ham – Your standard sliced deli ham has just the right thickness and moisture content for our purposes here.
- Swiss cheese – Mild, nutty, and melty ideally suited to pinwheels. If you’re not a fan of Swiss, give provolone a try.
- Dijon mustard – I like Dijon for these roll-ups. It’s got a distinctive tanginess from the presence of white wine, and it has a slightly more subtle heat than your average mustard.
- Poppy seeds – Crunchy, nutty, and lovely to look at. Poppy seeds add the perfect finishing touch.
- Brown sugar
- Butter – Brushing the roll-ups with Dijon glaze adds rich flavor and ensures they bake up golden and flaky.
Recipe Tips
- How to slice pinwheels cleanly: First, make sure the dough is fridge cold. Second, once you’ve topped the dough and rolled it up into logs, use a sharp serrated knife and a sawing motion to cut the logs into well-formed pinwheels. If you don’t have a suitable serrated knife, a sharp chef’s knife will get the job done. Whatever you do, try not to press down on the logs or you’ll compress them.
- You can also make this recipe with crescent roll sheets instead of pizza dough, use 2 of the 8-ounce cans.
- The rolls can be stored unbaked for up to 24 hours in the fridge, simply cover them with foil and then bake them when you’re ready.
